Zoo Mourns Death Of Sassy Cheetah, Buju

New Jersey – A “sassy” Cheetah named Buju has passed away at 12 years of age. Buju’s death was announced Monday morning in a Facebook post for the Cape May County Park/Zoo.

We regret to share the passing of our 12-year-old cheetah, Buju.

According to the zoo, Buju’s favorite past time was resting in the shade with his brother, Beenie. In their “heyday” the brothers would let ducks in their enclosure live for several days before stalking and hunting them.

As Buju aged, he enjoyed spending time with his keepers. The zoo said, “His sass will be missed by the zoo staff.”

Buju died from kidney disease. Cheetahs typically live 8 to 12 years in the wild, and up to 20 years in captivity.

Rest easy Buju.
