Arcadia, CA – A young racehorse, just three years of age, has died following a catastrophic injury at the Santa Anita Track on Saturday. According to sources, Beverly Vista, owned by Little Red Feather Racing, had to be euthanized after being injured during the sixth race on the main track.

In what would be his first, and last race, Beverly Vista became the eighth horse to die at the track this year. A video of the race was altered to remove his injury, but a front leg can be seen dangling as he is walked off of the track to an ambulance. Animal welfare advocates have questioned why Beverly Vista was forced to walk with the broken leg, and taken to a van rather than being humanely euthanized at the track.

Track officials claim that Santa Anita is the safest track in North America. Last year, 12 horses died at the track, and a staggering 42 horses died there in 2019. Animal Victory created a petition to address the deadly track. It was closed after the Public Information Officer for the California Horse Racing Board sent correspondence outlining safety measures that were being implemented to protect the horses.
