Search Continues For Woman Who Fell in River Trying to Save Dog

Carbonado, WA – The search continues for a woman who fell into a rain swollen river in Pierce County on Sunday morning. Rescuers were dispatched to the Carbon River on Sunday after Zuleika Witron, 28, fell into the raging water while trying to save her dog, who had slipped on the muddy bank during their hike.

Witron was walking with her girlfriend and two dogs when the tragedy happened. According to Witron’s sister, Kiara Witron, one of the dogs was slipping in the mud and Zuleika fell in while trying to save her from going into the water – both ended up in the swift current and were quickly swept away.

Using a drone, rescuers located the dog about two miles from where she went in – the dog was taken to a veterinarian and is reported to be okay. Recovery efforts continue for Witron.
