Police K9 Killed During Pursuit of Suspected Drug Trafficker

Miami-Dade, FL – A K9 with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office was killed after a suspected drug trafficker struck her handler’s vehicle, causing an accident. According to the sheriff’s office, K9 Roxi sustained severe injuries when the vehicle she was in slammed into a concrete wall after the suspect, Anthony Medina, hit it.

In a release, the agency said that the pursuit took place on January 30. Medina allegedly struck the K9 vehicle intentionally, causing it to strike the concrete wall. K9 Roxi was rushed to a veterinarian but died from her injuries on February 1.

Medina and another man were arrested at the scene; in the vehicle, the police found:

  • 12 grams of phylocybin mushrooms
  • 252 bags of marijuana, totaling 1,411 grams
  • 90 boxes of THC cartridges
  • 14 packs of marijuana edibles totaling 678 grams
  • $8,525 in cash
  • 1 firearm

The department is mourning Roxi’s death. In a social media post, saying:

Roxi was a true hero who dedicated her life to protecting and serving. Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched and the hearts she protected.
