Londonderry, New Hampshire – A 60-year-old man was arrested and is facing animal cruelty charges following the discovery of five dead cats and two living cats in his Londonderry condominium. According to the Londonderry Police, Robert Gerhold, of 7 Holly Lane, was arrested on March 13 following a months-long investigation into animal cruelty allegations.
In a news release, the authorities said:
In August 2023, Officer Reitze responded to a group of attached condominiums on Holly Lane for a neighborhood dispute. It was learned that Gerhold’s neighbors reported their condominiums were infested with fleas and could smell the strong odor of cat urine in their basements.
Officer Reitze was able to obtain a search warrant after learning that Gerhold had active bail conditions preventing him from possessing any animals from another animal cruelty case.
Officers who searched Gerhold’s residence found five dead cats in a container in his basement and two flea-infested cats who were still alive. The surviving cats were taken to the Manchester Animal Shelter for care.
Gerhold is charged with seven counts of animal cruelty and seven counts of breach of bail. He was arraigned at the Derry District Court
