Investigation Initiated After Seven Chained Dogs Shot in South Carolina

Georgetown County, SC – On February 23, someone fatally shot seven chained dogs in Georgetown County, South Carolina. According to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to property on Gapway Road to investigate an animal cruelty situation.

Responding deputies found seven dead pit bulls “each with a single gunshot wound to the top of its head.” In a news release, the authorities said:

All seven were chained and secured in the yard of the property. A witness testified that the animals were unharmed when she checked on them earlier in the afternoon of the same day.

The investigation is ongoing; the deceased dogs will undergo a necropsy to confirm the cause of death.
