Hundreds of Animals Perish in Texas Shopping Center Fire

Dallas, TX – On Friday month, hundreds of animals perished when a fire broke out at Plaza Latina Bazaar. According to sources, among the deceased were birds, cats, dogs, hamsters, and even a tortoise. The animals were held in an exotic pet shop inside the shopping center.

The flames did not reach the pet store, but heavy smoke did. As reported by 9 News, at least a dozen surviving animals were treated for smoke inhalation.

Dallas Fire-Rescue said,

When firefighters arrived at the large one-story commercial occupancy, they were met with heavy smoke and fire conditions. Recognizing that suppression efforts would be defensive early on, a second-alarm response was immediately requested, which resulted in approximately 40-45 firefighters on scene to mitigate the situation, using hand lines and three ladder pipes to surround and drown the fire from all sides.”

Dallas Animal Services took in the surviving animals. No people were harmed in the blaze.
