Plaistow, NH – When a snowplow displaced a well cover, a large German shepherd found himself in dire straits after tumbling 20 feet down the frigid opening. Fortunately, a rescue team mobilized and saved his life.
The Facebook page for the Plaistow Fire Department recounted the harrowing incident:
A large German Shepherd had fell approximately 20’ down a well after the lid had been displaced by a snowplow. PFD personnel tried to secure a rope to the animal using a non-entry rescue pole. After a few unsuccessful attempts a tripod was used to lower a KFD rescuer into the hole.
Eventually a Kingston Fire Department rescuer was able to reach the dog, who was pulled safely out of the well. The dog, Arlo, was taken to a veterinarian and is okay, despite the terrifying fall.
The dog’s owner posted a photo on the fire department’s Facebook page indicating that her dog was at home and recovering.
Great job rescuers!
