It is Thanksgiving week and there are countless homeless shelter pets who would love nothing more than to be in a real home for the holiday. Thanks to shelter programs, some lucky cats and dogs will have the chance to ditch their lonely kennel run and join families for the holiday.
The Michiana Humane Society in Indiana is promoting their Thanksgiving foster program which allows families to take in a homeless dog or cat for the holiday.
The shelter explains:
You can make a difference in a pet’s life for a couple of days.
We are looking for Thanksgiving Day fosters who:
1.) Are not traveling.
2.) Can pick up on Wednesday, 11/27 by 3pm.
3.) Can return on Monday, 12/2 by 4pm. (Return is also available, at the earliest, on Saturday, 11/30 by 2pm)
And in Hamden, Connecticut, homeless pets can be temporarily fostered through the Sleepover Paw-ty sponsored by Where The Love Is animal shelter. Similar programs are being held nationwide.
If you are interested in giving a shelter pet the chance to enjoy the comforts of home, please contact your local animal shelter facility to see if they have a program. And if it is too late for you to take in a cat or dog this Thanksgiving, consider Christmas! Most shelters look for families to help during the Christmas holiday as well.
You can make a difference in the life of a homeless pet. Please consider reaching out to help. Even if you are not able to take a homeless pet temporarily into your home, you can help by making a donation of your time, goods, or food – reach out to agencies near you to see how you can assist.
