Helotes, Texas – A former NFL player was arrested on animal cruelty charges after he abandoned a puppy in a hot storage unit on days when the temperature climbed to 100 degrees. As reported by CBS Austin, Dwayne Anthony Missouri, a former Dallas Cowboys player, allegedly left the puppy in a non-climate-controlled unit at the Storage Mart at 12420 State HWY 16.
Missouri tried to blame the abandonment on someone else, but surveillance footage confirmed that he was responsible for leaving the puppy in the unit. A police officer responded to the property on June 20 after someone reported hearing a puppy barking.
The officer found a puppy in the hot storage space with two empty bowls, and “clothes and shoes.”
The puppy was taken to Helotes Animal Control and Missouri was booked into Bexar County jail on Sunday, October 1.
