Yancey County, NC – A North Carolina family was elated to learn that their beloved cat, Blanco, survived massive flooding caused by Hurricane Helene. Blanco’s owner escaped the rapidly rising waters, but their pet was swept away.
MSPCA-Angell writes, “His family made it to dry land, but could only watch in despair as the helpless cat clung to wires, trying to escape the rising waters. They watched as he fell in and was swept away by the flood waters, certain that Blanco did not survive, and they would never see their beloved cat again.”
But Blanco proved himself to be a mighty survivor.
Against all odds, Blanco returned to his home, eight days after being swept away. The animal welfare agency said, “His family was overcome with relief and SO grateful they were able to bring him to the mobile clinic, where our MSPCA team treated him for an ear infection and some upper respiratory issues.”
MSPCA-Angell continues to help those impacted by the massive storms. The organization writes:
Blanco’s journey is just one of the many heartwarming stories coming from our disaster relief efforts. Our team is scheduled to return to Massachusetts today, but they along with Best Friends Animal Society have put procedures in place to ensure other veterinarians are able to continue treating pets at the mobile clinic, and the MSPCA is in touch with other impacted shelters to discuss similar trips as Florida and North Carolina continue recovering.
