Lewes, Delaware – Dozens of dogs have been rescued from an abandoned house in Lewes. According to the Brandywine Valley SPCA, 35 dogs were rescued from “deplorable conditions” on August 8.

The terrible situation was discovered thanks to concerned neighbors who reached out to the Office of Animal Welfare’s (OAW) Delaware Animal Services after noticing that nobody had been at the home for “several days.”

In a release, the animal welfare agency said:

Officers arrived to find dogs running loose on the property, jumping from an open window, and living in filth with no electricity or running water.

A team removed 32 dogs and 3 puppies from the abandoned house and transported them to BVSPCA’s Animal Rescue Center (ARC) in Georgetown for veterinary care, grooming, spaying and neutering, and rehabilitation. The dogs will be held until they are ready for adoption.
