Dogs Die After Breeder Moves, Abandoning Them In Pens

Cairo, GA – A Georgia dog breeder left dogs to die in pens after being evicted from his home. According to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office, a neighbor alerted the authorities about several dogs who were locked in pens, without food or water, because John Mark Morrell Jr., a dog breeder, had moved out and left them behind.

The authorities discovered three dead dogs when they executed a search warrant on October 25. One dog, named Nina, survived being abandoned and was taken to the Cairo Animal Hospital for care.

Police arrested Morrell on October 28; he is facing four felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

The police addressed the cruelty case on social media, writing:

Nina is not available for adoption at this time.
