Couple Arrested For Severe Neglect Of Horse

Collier County, FL – A Florida couple has been arrested for the severe neglect of a horse that was discovered running loose on August 11. The quarter horse, Monarcas, was emaciated and a veterinarian stated that he was approximately 300 pounds underweight.

Extremely underweight at the time he was discovered.

Animal cruelty investigators arrested Diego Alex Trevino Garza, 43, and Elisa Godinez, 38, last week; the couple is facing a charge of aggravated animal cruelty.

Monarcas is recovering now that he is receiving proper care.

Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said:

“Thanks to the efforts of our Animal Cruelty Investigations Alliance, Monarcas is now being properly cared for and is already showing signs of improvement. His now former owners are in my custody and will be held accountable for their criminal actions.”
