Petal, Miss. – A family is mourning the death or their dog, who was bludgeoned to death by an 11-year-old boy early last week. According to sources, the dog, Chico, was beaten to death with a large stick.

After seeing video footage of the incident, Timber Roberts, Chico’s owner, tells WDAM News, the child acted with intent, “It was very brutal, and he meant to do it.”

Chico was leashed on his owner’s property at the time of the attack…unable to escape from the brutal beating.

The boy was visiting his grandmother when he attacked little Chico – the authorities have charged the child with aggravated animal cruelty, and his grandmother with neglect. However, because the boy is only eleven, he will not be charged as an adult.

Roberts is petitioning for stronger protections under Senate Bill 2261, aka Buddy’s Law. She fears what violent children like this may do in the future if their mental health issues are not addressed. She said, “He did that to our dog, and I don’t know what he can do to other animals or, in the future, do to human beings.”
