Charleston, SC – Years after suffering horrible abuse, Caitlyn the dog has passed away. The sad news was shared with followers of the Charleston Animal Society Facebook page earlier this week. The animal welfare agency posted Caitlyn’s family’s social media post announcing the beloved dog’s death:
We are devastated to share that our sweet Caitlyn peacefully passed over the rainbow bridge on Sunday surrounded by love. She suddenly became ill in the last week and was diagnosed with an advanced and aggressive cancer. As was her nature, she fought until the end. Caitlyn was a beloved and now deeply missed member of our family. She loved us as much as we loved her and we will never forget her. For us, this is a reminder of how fleeting life can be and that we should all value the time we have with our loved ones because tomorrow is not guaranteed.
In 2015, Caitlyn was found with her snout tightly wrapped in duct tape. Her tongue lost circulation, and she would have starved to death of not found and freed from the binding tape.
Caitlyn’s abuser, William Leonard Dodson, received the maximum jail sentence in 2016 after admitting to the crime.
Fly high sweet Caitlyn.
