Long Island, NY – A devastating fire has destroyed a Long Island cat sanctuary, killing dozens of cats and the man who operated the facility. The cat rescue community has been rocked by news of the blaze, which destroyed the Happy Cat Sanctuary early Monday morning.

As reported by ABC 7 News, “at least” 100 cats perished in the blaze, as well as the founder and owner of the sanctuary, Chris Arsenault, who apparently died while trying to save the cats trapped in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
