Madison Heights, Michigan – A man lost his life on Christmas Eve while trying to save a dog from being abused in his neighborhood. According to reports, Robert “Bobby” Cavanaugh, known to be an animal lover, was riding his bike when he saw a man beating a dog.
The 60-year-old man stopped to intervene on behalf of the abused dog and the man beating the dog turned his attention to Cavanaugh, striking him with a pipe. The blow was so severe that Cavanaugh was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Police arrested 68-year-old Rodney Beasley for the crime; Beasley is facing a four-year felony charge for assault with a dangerous weapon. After Cavanaugh’s autopsy is completed, Beasley may face additional charges.
