El Dorado County, CA – Last week, a dog was rescued from an abandoned mineshaft in northern California. According to the Garden Valley Fire Protection District, the dog had fallen 50 feet into the shaft.

The agency said:
Firefighter Trevor Willingham was lowered into the shaft, and with careful planning and teamwork, the pup was secured and raised out of the mineshaft.
The dog was taken to the vet for medical evaluation but seemed very happy to have four paws back on the surface.
The agency provided a shocking statistic about the staggering number of shafts in the area, writing, “Did you know there are 5,416 mining claims in the area, and 1,968 mines in El Dorado County, CA?”
Fortunately, this pooch was discovered and saved, amazingly without serious injuries. The fire agency reminds the public to keep dogs close when exploring the area.
