Erwin, TN – Flash flooding caused by Hurricane Helene claimed the life of a K9 in Erwin, Tennessee. The nine-year-old German shepherd, Scotty, was swept away on Friday when the flood water impacted Erwin – his body was found on Saturday.

Scotty was killed in the flash flooding that devastated Unicoi County during Hurricane Helene on Friday. Scotty was washed away in the flash flood waters, and his body was located Saturday night after a more than 24 hour search for him.
Scotty worked with his handler and partner, Officer Chad McKinney, as an explosives detection K9 for the Erwin Police Department, serving the community since 2017.
Scotty was known to be gentle and social, and he had a special fondness for his Kong ball.
Those who knew and loved Scotty are mourning his tragic loss.
