Ann Arbor, MI – For more than 1454 days, a Great Dane named Sigrid (aka Siggy) has been waiting for her chance to be adopted. The now nine-year-old dog was seized in 2020 as part of a cruelty case and according to the Humane Society of Huron Valley, the “court system moved at a snail’s pace,” with the months turning into years.
This week, the animal welfare agency said, “It’s heartbreaking to think that she spent so much of her precious time in limbo (*after* being removed from a horrific situation).
Instead of the joyful, carefree life she deserved, she spent her senior years waiting—together with dozens of other animals—caught up in a legal process that stretched the resources of our shelter and delayed her chance to find a forever family.”
The shelter finally has the green light to place Siggy in a forever home. They provide a peek at her personality:
This gentle giant, weighing over 100lbs is crate-trained, eager to please, loves people, has lived peacefully with a cat, and never even tries to hop on the furniture, according to her foster, who describes her as “a VERY good, sweet dog.” She’s also food-motivated.
She’s strong and can be dog reactive on walks, but when it’s just you and her, she’s the perfect walking buddy, enjoying her daily mile-long strolls.
Siggy loves toys, a good game of fetch, and she already knows her basic commands. Please consider adding this beautiful girl to your home!
