New Bern, NC – Someone abandoned a caged puppy without food or water – just a note saying, ‘please take me.” A good Samaritan found the caged pup on Monday near an overpass by a parking lot and moved him to a shaded area before calling the New Bern Animal Control for help.
ACO Kevin Bahr tells WRAL he was crushed to see the abandoned puppy, “To see something like that, it’s kind of, you know, disheartening because it doesn’t cost anything to take an animal to the shelter and surrender if you really can’t take of it. To leave an animal to fend for itself on the side of the road in a cage, for one, it’s against the law.”
The 12-week-old puppy was taken in at the Craven-Pamlico Animal Shelter. As a reminder, it is illegal to abandon a pet and it could result in fines or given the severity of the abandonment, charges more serious than a misdemeanor.
