Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada – A tabby cat who was living on the streets in Fredericton for the last few months was captured by good Samaritans and taken to the Oromocto and Area SPCA. Staff at the shelter scanned her for a microchip, and much to their delight, one was found.
A call to the number on file revealed that the cat, Birdie, had disappeared a year ago from a residence in Ottawa, over 620 miles away. The shelter said, “How she ended up in Fredericton, over 1000 km away, is a complete mystery!”
The shelter reached out to the public, hoping that someone might be heading to Ottawa soon. Their request for help was answered; a family will be taking Birdie to her home in Ottawa on their upcoming trip.
Microchips work! Be sure to keep contact information up-to-date.
