Douglas County, MO – Last week, 43 starving, neglected dogs were rescued from a breeding operation in Douglas County, Missouri. The Animal Cruelty Task Force (ACT) for the Humane Society of Missouri said that their ACT assisted the sheriff’s department after a warrant was issued to remove the dogs from the property.

Officials saved 43 dogs and discovered the remains of nine dogs who died before help arrived. The animal welfare agency said:

We have worked tirelessly to bring these dogs to safety, and now that they are here, we are spending all of our time providing them the love and care they need.
We are so grateful that these 43 Shiba Inus are being given a second chance.

HSMO President Kathy Warnick said, “The conditions at this property amount to one of the worst cases of animal neglect we’ve seen this year.” Adding, “The caring citizen who tipped off the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department undoubtedly saved the lives of many of these innocent dogs and gave them a second chance at life.”

A formal determination of custody will take place on November 9. Until then, the dogs are receiving veterinary care, shelter, food, and love.
