Greenville, NC – A dog who was left tethered to a fence in torrential rain from Tropical Storm Ophelia was saved thanks to a real-life hero. A police officer with the Greenville Police Department reached the tethered pit bull moments before the floodwater would have overtaken him.

The police department said:

REAL LIFE HERO: GPD Officer B. Schultz (595) rescues a dog from the flood water off of Dunbrook Drive. The dog, a small pit bull, was tied to a fence and was just inches from drowning.

The authorities were able to rescue the dog thanks to the good Samaritan who called in the life-or-death situation.

The rescued dog is reported to be “safe from harm,” and Animal Protective Services will be conducting an investigation into the situation.
